A Love Story of Distance

Updated: Jun 6, 2018

With the month of May being filled with love and romance in the air with not only Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding on May 19th. (Which was a beautiful wedding, I'm always a sucker for them)

For me, the day after, it would have been 20 months since I have met my soulmate for the first time. So...I thought, why not celebrate these special occasions by writing a certain short story.

All love stories revolve around the idea of love. What is love? What ignites this one feeling? There are many stories that tell us about this concept, but each love story is beautiful by it's own rights.

Here is my story.....

A while ago, there was a girl and guy, who had met through via online. One compliment became an intrigue - but a single silly question was what ignited a friendship. They started chatting occasionally, at first. Though soon, they talked everyday - enjoying each others company more than either had expected upon first message.

Shortly after, one night was fated; a night of discussion, a night of laughter, a night of company. Staying up for sleepless hours, both had fallen asleep with the beginning of their memories that they would recall later in life.

Conversations continued; each day filled with more joy for the company that both gave to each other. Days continued, both of them were always looking forward to the upcoming conversations, for that was their favorite part of their entire day.

They were two opposite souls.

She was a doubter that still held onto hope, a soul that has been through pain all throughout her life.

He was a ray of sunshine that was confident in life, a soul that was ignorant to the world that he lived in.

She battles through internal problems, troubles that she had created herself.

He suffers through external problems, none were his fault for living.

She heard multiple voices everyday and she couldn't stop them from echoing in her head. But he became the voice of reassurance and security that she heard.

As time continued, the two souls begin to attract towards - begin to mend - together. The idea of falling in love begin to change into falling into a rabbithole.

A rabbit hole that is filled with fluttering hearts, awkward sentences, and hidden feelings. One might've fallen before the other, but nothing less, both fell in love with each other.

Couple of months past by, months that neither had accepted nor denied their overflowing emotions for the other.

She was denying the truth that she felt in her hear.

He had troubles with his love triangle - or rather - love trapezoid.

Another month went by, with their issues being resolved for the better. One fateful morning, both had finally confessed their long-awaited feelings for one another.

Despite the reveal of their inner truths to each other, they underwent a period of confusion and awkwardness between their tender tension. Outside forces didn't help ease the tension, if anything, it had caused more stress for the two of them.

The more time spent together, the more vulnerable both souls felt whenever together. But the obstacles that seemingly stood in their way became broader.

The physical distance between them, the conflicting lifestyles they lived in, the question if they truly were meant for each other....all of the problems were in their thoughts that become stirred up whenever separated or together.

Those obstacles almost broke and tore them apart. All of their bottled up confusion, frustration, betrayal was finally spoken.

It broke their hearts....he needed time to figure everything out....she cried and cried until tears was replaced with utter numbness the next day.

The next day, there was tension and silence between them. This tension was something more than their past quarrels, this had felt like the Cold War.

The silence and the distance....neither knew what to do nor say. Nothing could possibly mend the explosion of broken hearts and fragmented trust that they had created themselves.

More days were ticking by with awkward and short conversations.

Until....finally....both had swallowed their pride and allowed themselves to be vulnerable to the other once again - mending their mistakes and healing each other's broken heart.

Months afterwards; they became filled with communication, support, openness, and love.

They have said the words, "I love you" before, many times. But then...it was

young love. Falling in love for the first time....being young and native to the concept, falling for the swoon and rush.

But now....this time, they know what true love is. To fall for the person at the most happiest of times and hold them tightly for the worst past through. Saying the words, "I love you", is simply a reminder of everything they have battled through and how many battles they won together.

Saying those three words also translates to: "I won't give up on you", "I am here to stay with you no matter what", "I don't need you in my life....but I want you in my life."

He was her unexpected first love and she was the most surprising gal in his lifetime.

They met with distance, but they fell in love with each other under no conditions.

How they managed to love each other despite everything that is still against them?

Well.....they both realized the mistakes and imperfections of the other, but neither cared in the end.

The two souls saw the happiness and love that the other truly felt. Instead of judging and playing pretend, they both mended and kissed each other's lost souls, knowing one day that once they are physically together...they will earn the happy ending that they have waited for.

The saying, "Distance makes the heart grow fonder," must be true then.
